When your 'Vette can race a circuit against any higher end import like an NSX or M5, come back and start yappin about your American straight cars. ;p My point was that the GAm GT is similar to the Vette in that ...fast off the line, great on the straight, but when you throw a few degrees into the road it's time to call the insurance company.

Meh, that's an older BMW ...I'm talkin M3/M5 ...in an overall performance competition including straights, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, full mile, circuit, European windy roads, etc ...I'd put my $ on the M5 beating the Vette overall. I know you're hellbent on your 427 and all that, but the M5's 10-cylinder engine will sit you back in your seat ...and the cars suspension can actually allow for high-speed cornering - unlike the Vette (brings to mind a race I saw between a Pantera and Viper and Pantera and Vette ...twas a funny site to see ...those Pantera's are unreal in the corners).

The only car you've mentioned in this thread that I have any real respect for is the Cobra. I've seen several of them race and they are a wonderfully designed automobile (not to mention one of the prettiest) ...

And yes, I'm comparing a Jap Ricer to an American car ...that was my point in the first place. Take a Jap car and a US car in the same class and compare them. Sure the US car is great on the straights ...but if the grocery store happens to be around a corner, ta ta.

I guess it depends on the argument. If you're arguing for straight 1/4 mile runs ...I agree that overall, the muscle cars and American beasts are far better than most Ricers. If you're comparing a complete track run with corners, etc, few US/muscle cars will take the M5, WRX, 300ZX, NSX, etc. Either way, I'm still not a fan of the Vette's in particular. I've watched a lot of races with both new and older Vette's and never been really impressed.

Hey, glad to hear from the Alzheimer's contingent, but have you actually *checked* on the performance of a modern computer controlled engine?
