Re: 360 and TH400 combo

According to someone on the AJC board it sounds like he's gonna need a stock adapter for the 304/TH400 combo.

Assuming this info is correct, anyone know where to find one (other than a salvage yard) and what the cost might be?

Oooh, that would be nice. I'm gonna watch this thread. > > Cheers, > - Jeff G > 67 Kaiser Jeepster Commando > 50 Willys 4x4 Station Wagon >

I know you probaly already have the 360, but it might be easier to plop a GM 350 in there. You know that'll bolt right up... The '70 Wagoneers used the Buick

350. Did they make any V-8 Commandos?

The problem is that he already has both the engine and the tranny (and just removed his dauntless), only now did he wonder if it will bolt up (not very good planning). According to a guy on the AJC website there is a cast bellhousing to block adapter for it . Actually he is referring to an adapter for the 304/TH400 combo, but he seems to think that the 360 and the

304 share the same bolt pattern. I'll see what else I can find out. Thanks.

Afaik, all the V8 AMC engines that were used in Jeeps share the same clutch housing bolt pattern with the 258. That bellhousing to block adapter sounds like an Advance Adapters part.

I think it probably is

I found this, I don't know if it's right but.......

BELLHOUSING ADAPTER KITS Part No. Description Price

Ow! That price would have to hurt! I think that these are standard transmission adapters, anyway. The "4.686" and "5.125" look like some kind of measurement. I thought that there was an AA automatic transmission adapter which would work, assuming that the 225 has a GM V8 bolt pattern of course.

How's the 225? Is it rebuildable? ;o)

Understood. I think at this point its a matter of seeing if there is an AA or novak adapter that can mate the AMC 360 bolt pattern to the GM TH400 pattern.

Swapping guts seems like a good bet. If they have enough of a suspension lift they just might clear the front drive shaft.
