realisitic blue book value?

Question

Who's "blue book" valuation is the most realistic? I checked my TJ using Edmonds, Kelly, and NADA and got considerably different numbers by about $1100. I know I've heard people say that some of the blue book values are off, but I need to know where I should be. TIA

I use NADA. I've found KBB to _usually_ be lower than NADA. If you use NADA, be prepared for the usual gaggle of price police quoting you KBB "blue book". Edmunds I only trust for new invoice pricing.TJim wrote:

Thanks, Roy.  Good point about the season.  I drove it all year round, so Ididn't give that much thought.  I think I'll wait until April to advertiseit.

Region does make a difference. I have the advantage of living in Texas and people come from all over the country to buy in CA and in TX. The internet also opens up your market base. I sold my 4Runner to a gal in IL and my Tahoe to a chap in AL. Definitely, put in on TraderOnline or Ebay Motors.Roy wrote:

The various books tend to vary quite a bit in accuracy depending on which area of the country your are in. I tend to like NADA in the midwest. KBB seems to show quite a bit of variation from what I would consider a 'reasonable' number.

Of greater concern is that soft top Jeeps tend to have a really wild fluctuation depending on the season. In the north, you can't give away a soft top TJ from November to March, so NO book is reasonable. Then the price spikes by a couple thousand going into May.

Banks always use NADA, so if someone is going to get a loan for your Jeep, use that one. I have found KBB to be a bit high and Edmonds to be a bit low. The average of the two usually is about right (and will sometimes match NADA).

Another thing you can do is look on cars.com/autotrader.com for similar Jeeps in your region. That should give you a good idea of "fair market value" where you live.

FYI, I listed mine on cars.com and was swamped with calls...

Thanks, everyone, for all your feedback.  This is the first time in al-o-n-g time I've tried to sell a vehicle by myself.  I'm thinking right nowthat, maybe I'll put an add or two on the internet and if it sells, great.If not, I'll wait until April/May and try to sell it around here.Wish me luck.  :-)
