TJ Rear Glass

Oct 12, 2003 5 Replies

Anyone know how much it would cost to replace the rear glass for a TJ hard top? I am looking to buy a top cheap, but it needs the glass. I don't need the wiper or defroster. Just trying to get some info before buying this top. Thanks.

It is pretty expensive!

I have seen several hard tops including my old tenant's that he did himself that use Plexiglas or lexan as the replacement.

They used clear, but Norbert was going to mirror coat his with some of that film stuff, then he sold the Jeep as is with the clear rear window.

I too am in the same boat. I bought a hardtop for $25 with no glass in hopes of soon either finding glass or having lexan cut to fit. No luck yet.

You know it was a long time ago, but I went to a galss shop, and asked how much for a piece for my CJ, they said bring a patern and they'd cut it and put the holes in tempered glass for about 50.00. I got some butcher paper, to make a rubbing, but haven't found a top like mine yet.

Isn't that piece flat? I never looked that close, but I called around to several Auto Glass shops to find one for a pickup topper and they quoted $100-175, depending on the shop and whether it was smoked or clear. Most said that the exact price would depend on the exact area of the glass and wanted a week to send it out for tempering. Any curve, now, is a whole different ball game.
