PERMATEX® ULTRA BLUE® No Leak RTV Silicone Gasket Maker, #77B is the proper sealant for differential covers.
Just dont let the fact that you choose an expensive lube prevent you from changing it after every water crossing. Cheap ube hurts less to change often, bearings are expensive, as Shamus may discover within a year.
What are all the other colour of RTV's used for? Looks like some might excede blue specs...
In my opinion that is a waste of time and money.
'Check' it after every trip!
If there is 'any' water contamination, it is extremely obvious, the gear oil turns to purple milkshake.
I ran all my vents up above my battery.
