I had a D44 rear installed in my '92 YJ. Brakes used were the ones from the D35 that was replaced. The brakes worked ok (but not great) with 32 inch tires. I'm now switching to 35's and would like to upgrade the brakes. Any thoughts concerning the best way of doing so, i.e., larger drums or maybe disk brakes, will be appreciated. I'd like to keep my 5 on 4.5 in wheels if possible. Thanks.

Disc brakes are probably your best bet. What is your D44 from? Maybe the ZJ D44 disc brakes will work?

I am not aware that D35 brakes will fit a D44. Most D44's are 10-11" drums. Every D35 drum I have seen is much wider than D44 drums. Anyway... for the best results... do a disk brake conversion.
