YJ suspension mod question

Have you tried softer shocks?

I haven't tried different shocks. I'm currently running the Pro-Comps that came with my lift kit. I guess I could temporarily disconnect the shocks and run around the block to see how much the shocks contribute to the stiff ride. Any recommendations on shocks?

TCL did pass the time by typing:

RS-9000 adjustables or similar so you can "tune" the ride to your situation.

I'm fairly happy with the edelbrock IAS shocks, but probably will go adjustable in the future

I had a 4" Pro-Comp on my '89 YJ. I had ordered the 2", but they sent the 4". I should have sent it back, but figured what the heck.

Anyway, the ride sucked it was so stiff. After about 6 months, I just couldn't take it any more. So, I did just what you are talking about. I took a leaf out of each pack, although I don't recall which leaf it was. I also had to add some of those goofy extended shackles to make up for the height loss since I already had larger tires in place.

Another thing I did to improve the ride was to lube the spring pack. After I took the pack apart to remove a leaf, I slathered grease onto each leaf as I built the pack back up.

After all was said and done, the ride was immensely better.

The same thing happened to me. I ordered the 2" lift and received the 4". I didn't know it was a 4" until I finished the install and compared it to a friend's Jeep with the 4" and found they were the same.

I installed the lift in my garage and discovered after I put the wheels back on that I couldn't get back out of the garage without adjusting the overhead door to go up a few more inches. Now it just barely clears the door opening.

I have 31x10.5 tires, so I think I should be alright with a little less lift. Thanks for the help.
