Re: Advice required-> I may buy a Kia Rio RX-V (Canadian market), good car? or lemon?

If you want that much space and are set on getting a hatch, just buy a used Elantra GT... Mind you though, KIA Canada's 5/5/5 warranty can't be beat.... Just my 2 cents..

No, as far as I know, Kia uses a much older and completely different engine (based on the old Mazda Protegés) than the Accent... The Accent motor was developed in-house by Hyundai... Don't think they share anything much really since Hyundai's majority acquisition of Kia has only taken place recently.... But you are right about Hyundai and Kia eventually sharing the same platforms for their cars (a la Pontiac/Chevrolet)...

Good luck with your decision..

Thanks for the reply,

The Kia 1.6 L and Hyundai 1.6 L almost share identical specifications, other than I can't see the casting (plastic cover) on the Kia, I'd say they are the same engine.

Just like when Fiat took over Lancia, Lancias started to have the Fiat twin cam engine (shoot, Fiat has had twin cam engines and 4 wheel disc brakes on their cars since the mid

60s!!!), Alfa has had twin cam 4 cylinder grocery go getters since the 50s!!!!!)

But, I do see a difference in torque, so you may be correct. I know that Hyundai only recently developed that engine, around the time of the Kia takeover. (1.6, all accents before that had 1.5 litres SOHC). I dunno?!?! Either way, as long as the Kia Rio is a reliable car, good on gas, and things don't break left right and center, I'll be super happy.

I had a 1982 Toyota Tercel (bought it because it had lowwww Ks (75,000kms!) and MINT, no rust, original paint, no dents, it was like new!), the thing was Spartan as can be, BUT, the build quality, ohhhh, Toyota's first FWD car was amazing. It was built in Japan, the trim was minimal, but, lasts to regular and severe abuse. Vinyl interior :(, at least the

2003 Rio has a nice(r) interior. The 2002 model doesn't look as good, I think I'll be happy.

Cheers.
