Sorento hard starting

When out to start my 06 Sorento after it sat untouched for a couple of weeks,(I drive my Harley most in summer) and the little bugger refused to start at first. This was unerving as its always started at the first crank of the engine,no matter how cold or hot. I eventually started pumping the accelerator like you would on an old carburated Studebaker and the damn thing finally coughed, started and ran rough for a minute. Never did it before or since. WTF was that all about? Anyone have anything similar happen?

Greetings,

Lots of things can affect starting on a vehicle that's left sitting for an extended period of time. Low battery from parasitic drain, bad gas, junk settling in the fuel tank are just a few that come to mind.

If the problem persists, try a few rounds of fuel treatment in the tank to help clean out the junk every time you fill up. If not then just let it go and remember to start your truck every several days when you leave it sit for an extended period.

This truck is fuel injected and pumping the pedal before starting the motor won't actually send any gas to the cylinders because it does not have any power to the fuel pump or fuel injection pump. I'd look more at a clogged fuel filter, bad gas, water in the gas, clogged air filter, etc.

Good luck - Jonathan
