101 accelerator cable

Mines just snapped, or come loose at the carb end. It was pitch black so I couldn't see shit. What am I likely to be faced with. Is there any pre-load required as there was a lot of free play in the pedal etc?

How easy are they to get hold of?

Im pretty sure Lee replaced that one around 6 months ago. I recall him saying it was a bastard to get it together at the pedal end.

hopefully just come loose at the carb.

available from the club i think (if you can get through)

It does look new at the pedal end, I'll have a gander tomorrow.

I really need the thing on Monday too.

They´re bastards.. Mine snapped in Ireland back in May, and I had to get a new clevis made for me, whilst we drove around using mole-grips...

Steve Parker Landrover in Whitworth had mine ex-stock when I needed it -

Morph has a new cable around February prior to the Oswestry green lane trip and I doubt very nuch it's that that has gone. It may have come free at the carb end though.

The Pedal it's self has been reworked so is no longer a utter utter bastard to get to the clevis pin. I relocated the arm on the pedal shaft (welded not s**te clamps) and the cable holder to the end nearest the door rather than the end nearest the tunnel. It could be bracket I placed on the pedal boxes has come adrift but again I doubt it.

I seem to recall your geexer gave it a tune up. Had I been under the bonnet to do this then the only adjustments I'd have made would have been to the choke idle speed and the fuel mixtures. I'd set the balance by ear rather than any gizmology.

There was a bracket in the garage with was clearly an afterthought to prevent the pedal being pressed too far down, it's still in the garage (hangs head in shame!) as I never pressed it too far.... then again I'm not used to driving a WRX ;-)

On or around Thu, 07 Dec 2006 18:17:57 +0000, steve Taylor enlightened us thusly:

can't you just lift the engine cover and work the throttle by hand?

You've not steered a 101 recently have you :-) Mind you Steve has the luxury of power steering.

OK, found out the problem, the pedal end locknut & shaft has broken. I will tie to to the pedal box for a short term solution!!!

Nige,

I got the picture, it's a very nice demonstration of knotts you have there, were you in the scouts?

What exactly broke, can't make anything out on the picture my phone screen is too small.

Is it,

a) The pedal shaft come adrift b) The lever snapped off the pedal c) The bracket that holds the cable and adjuster to the pedal box d) The cable

hehehehe - it's a good bodge, done 40 miles with it like that too!!

It's the locknut & locknut shaft that have parted company, the brackets fine, so I'm holding the outer cable to the pedal box through the bracket to give leverage! Some stainless steel wire tied round it will be an effective repair until i get another cable!

Thats a bit disappointing.... new parts failing before one of my bodges.. h'mmm

Still on the bright side when you do repair it you can at least think yourself lucky that your not having to do it at the far end of the pedal shaft, now that would be a bummer.

Well done about 400 miles since the box was done, only a few issues. Drivers door latch locked me in twice which was fun getting the door card off. After the second time I replaced the latch complete. Otherwise fine, just need to adjust the passenger door striker as it's about 1/4 inch too far out.

Put a CD player in too as when they did the Gearbox they disconnnected the battery and the code was needed for the old radio, which was fine as it was written on it but programming it with no display was kinda fun :-).

How did you fasten the radio console on seems wedged in tight yet slides along the dash once the only screw I could find was removed.

Oh and I fitted them glow plugs , thanks for them! Roof liner will be sorted once I get a tuit.
