Andy Hi,
I know it has been done because there was an article in one of the LR magazines sometime ago. In addition to that I have bought an R380 gearbox and some other bits from a guy who has installed the Mpi engine (from which the bits and gearbox came off) to a series vehicle.
Do you want me to try and find his e-mail address?

I was just curious as to whether it was a good combination I'm after changing mine for something with a bit more "poke" I was thinking V8 but I keep getting other ideas for it like the Honda 2.7 V6 as used in the Rover 827/sterling then when I saw this I thought could be a reasonable conversion without being extreme and without too much modding to get it to fit
Andy
IIRC the engine block is totally different from the four cylinder petrol engines fitted to the series vehicles.
But it is a relatively small engine and when we all know that even a big V jaguar engine can be persuaded to fit inside the engine bay of a series vehicle, then everything is possible.

I thought the received wisdom was that the MPi was an attempt at a market filler for European smaller engined vehicles and that it was horrendously underpowered for towing etc.
Just my dodgy memory, probably.
yeah your probably right it's just I tend to look at the figures and it's 54 bhp more and 13 lb-ft more than my 2 1/4 so it's got to be an improvement whether is a big enough improvement to warrant the hassle of making it fit I don't know
Andy
No, not dodgy at all. 2.0 Mpi was similar to having a fiat126 under the bonnet :0) Didn't own one, just read lots of old LRO's and LRE's, have half a room full of them, known as my 'reference library' :0)

it is definatly worth doing. I have been in one and it goes like stink. It has wiped the smile of many boy racers. the only problem is if you build a conversion ring to mate it to a series box it WILL distroy the gearbox. The one I know of is now running on an lt77 with permanent 4wd. It is a tight fit against the bulkhead but would be worth the effort. the rev limiter kicks in at just under 7000 rpm and depending on your gearing you can get upto about 70 in third very quickly.
