200TDi Radiator

Oct 17, 2006 2 Replies

On a 1992 land rover defender fitted with 200tdi engine - the manual says to remove the radiator one has to remove the viscous fan. Is it indeed necessary to remove this fan or can the radiator exchange be done without?

Any tips most gratefully received as I have to tackle this job later this week.

It can be done, but there is a big risk of damaging the new radiator when putting it in - if you take the top panel off, you can force the intercooler out, and then the rad is easy - reasembly is the reverse of removal, only you have to hammer the intercooler back in (literally).

Unless you are very confident, take the fan off (it's only a couple of minutes to crack the nut and spin it off anyway), and dismantle things properly - one slip will cost a fortune.....

Thanks for that Richard - much appreciated.
