90 rear prop + rear suspension ?

How many props are there and what are the differences?

Mines a 1985 N/A Diesel but I've fitted a disk axle but so far kept my 10 spline diff. Had a vibration (seems to peak at 35 to 40 then goes off a bit) after fitting it along with new std height yellow springs (that seem a few inches higher than the old rusty ones) and procomp shox, I found a worn u/j and replaced it as well as replacing the lower arm to chassis bushes and now its worse :( It was perfect before I changed the axle (case went porous)

I don't think there's too many differences, the axle case must be from a newer one and I replaced the lower axle arms, the only thing was the replacement arms were thinner than the old ones on the drum axle.

As so much has been messed with it may be best to eliminate the prop by temporarily removing it. If there are bolts through flanges that won't remove(specifically, I think, at the driveline drum), fix them with a stack of washers and a nut so that they don't rattle, allow things to be loose or rub against other parts .

Engage the diff.lock. Drive around and see if you have a vibration or not. If you have, the rear prop's not necessarily the issue - there may be more than one problem! If you don't have, the rear prop is the problem.

Was the rear prop your original or one new to you?

Did you dismantle the prop at the splines? Did you line up the parts correctly on re-assembly? After you'd fitted the new UJ was it totally free in movement? Are there any signs of metallic contact in the UJ area?

Did you adjust the driveline park brake? Is it over-adjusted?

That was my next move

It's been on years and never had a problem with it and its had a bit of play in it for ages. My idea with the vibration was that the prop was running at a different angle so the worn UJ could be playing up

Seemed ok afterwards, moved it about and it seemed free enough

Not touched that for ages :)

I had to use different half shafts as the bolt holes on my old ones didn't line up with the holes on the hub, could only get 2 bolts back in.

Tried it with no back prop and although nasty to drive it didn't vibrate badly, so took the prop to work, bought a GKN U/J to replace the cheepo paddocks U/J I fitted on Saturday, refitted it and got rid of the serious vibration :) (got a few U/Js to send back to paddocks now) The new cheepo U/J had more play than the old one I replaced Thanks for the reply Dougal

I long ago gave up on cheap pattern UJ's in propshafts. Particuarly those SMD ones in the red/yellow boxes, they are absolute shit, I replaced the UJ's in my Range Rover front prop (which are prone to failure anyway) twice in a year. It now has genuine GKN ones fitted. They cost a lot more, but the hassle of having the props off every

5-10,000 miles has been eliminated.
