A New Landy

My search continues and in the frame at the moment is a T reg Td5 90 with

113000 miles on the clock I test drove it today and all seemed very well apart from a slight "hesitation" (as if suffering fuel starvation) at the top of the rev range

I seem to remember early Td5's suffering from fly by wire throttle issues

Advice on this and any other issues would be appreciated - my mechanic says I will make him a wealthy man if I buy it

How much do you like your mechanic? :)

I considered a TD5 110 a while ago, but on the advice of my mechanic searched for, and found, an older Tdi300 110 in great nick with lower milage. It meant I had to search high and low for one, but I found a good one after a 6 month search.

Once all the various oil/water leaks were fixed, it's a great car ;)

Biggest cost so far... replacing the timing belt, which wasn't too expensive, and fixed a water leak into the bargain.

Fewer 'lectronics to go wrong, bullet proof bottom end etc. Not quite as zippy as a TD5, o'course, but I have succeeded in several overtaking moves :), and pretty damned good fuel economy... a regular 30mpg regardless of conditions.

I did have a few leccy problems at the back of beyond involving the immobiliser which *cough* immobilised me. The local sparky disabled and removed the immobiliser in about 3 minutes flat, so now I won't get stranded by that anymore.

Having said all that, I *did* like the zippiness of the TD5, but I like to go fairly remote (Aus), so something easily fixed is better for me than speed.

Good luck.

I've a TD5 Disco and a TDi200 110, and the 110 is more zippy than the Disco! Mind you it's got 90 wheels so smaller diameter.
