Have replaced both slave and master cylinders also the flexible line but still can't get a firm pedal or the clutch to work. About half a litre of fluid used! The pedal gets soert of firm over about the last inch of travel. Any ideas I'm fed up grovelling under the bloody thing!!

get a pressure bleeder. You can buy a gunsons easibleed in halfords for under £15. I never used to have one of these, and spent hours trying to bleed things. Wouldnt even think about trying it without one now!
Have you checked underneath to see if you are getting movement on the arm I get the sneaky idea you may be losing motion somewhere along the line either the push rod might need a little adjustment or possibly the release bearing is past its sell by. Derek
Old trick. Press the pedal right in and wedge it there with something, go to bed and leave it like that as long as possible. Try again the next morning or later.
man kept saying get the front end in the air and do it. So on the third attempt we got the front end up on ramps and successfully bled the clutch. The sod is still walking around with a smile on his face!
You have got the bleed nipple at the top? It might be a bugger to get at like that, but with the nipple at the bottom it will never successfully bleed.

one other point, make sure you've set the master cylinder pushrod right - it needs a bit of slack in it.
No it is at the bottom as I thought it would be easier to get at, silly me. I'll put it the other way up and give it another go. I'll let you know Thanks
I have also seen an extension break pipe fitted in place of the bleed nipple up into the engine bay making access hell of a lot easier.
