I had my clutch pedal go down and not return today. No resistance when pushing the pedal.
Breakdown truckchap said it was prob the clutch.
No cable as it's a hydraulic clutch. Garage replaced the previous clutch at 43K last may, not a yr yet, they will replace the clutch they fitted free of charge if it's the clutch and not driver error!
Espace 2001 DCi2.2 57k.
Is it really a 2nd clutch ? The 2nd in 57k ?

have you checked the clutch fluid level ? but from memory i think its fed from the brake master, could be a leaking slave or clutch master, the master cylinders tend to gum up.

Went to the renault dealer. Said that the part previously fitted, less than a yr ago, was not faulty. It was another part, it would cost £800, to supply and fit.
Took the car to another garage,a local one that had been reccomended. He laughed and said they are at it. It was definetely the part that they fitted. So he said take it back.
I went back to the renault dealer and they agreed to take it in. Although they would not tow it the 1 1/2miles.
Lesson - avoid main delaers, especially £57 plus vat an hr.

Superfluous 'dealers' there.
Renault spares cost a fair bit more than most other makes too.

The message from "PC Paul" contains these words:
Not helped by policies such as selling valves in sets of four. So if you've bent one inlet and one exhaust you end up buying eight valves at around £300. Or going to the factors and paying £8 each.

My experience was having a 1.2 Clio. Nastiest car I ever owned.
The rear brake cylinder was sticking, so I got it replaced. £58 for the part. The next week my Astra had the same problem, part cost £18...

They certainly do.
Needed a new hub, hub carrier and bearing for a Renault Master van a few months ago. Priced the bits from both Renault and Vauxhall (Renault Master & Vauxhall Movano = same van, different badges).
The exact same parts were 50% more expensive from Renault (comparing retail prices). And at our trade prices, we actually made more money by using the parts from vauxhall, than we would of by getting the parts from Renault.

What dealer was that? RV or AC?
If it's the one I think it is, then my boss has fallen out with them many a time. Usually due to their blatant lies. So much so, that he delegates dealing with them to anybody but himself!

I swapped mine for a Volvo 440. *MUCH* nicer.
Cheaper to insure too (!)

I don't mind driving the wife's 1.4 auto Clio - just paying for the bits. Even bloody Renault couldn't get the right shocks for it. GSF refused to even try, having go it wrong so many times before.

It was AC. They just phoned andsaid it's a linkage and cyclinder. The bit that connects the pedal to the clutch. Said 'It's maybe the valve that's sticking'
About to ring me with a quote. Of course I'mgoing backto the local guyand he will do the work, cheaper, more reliable.
It's a pity the renault CD I bought with the technicalmanualand exploded views doesn't work.
Moray, MC as in mtbscotland MC ? Fancy working on my espace clutch ? Reccommend a clutch specialist ?

Still having problems.
Apparently the clutch assembly is all one unit.
Now it's not.
Had the master slave cylinder fitted last yr. It's not failed, it's the bit between the pedal and gearbox incl a pipe and valve, may be sticking.
So away to local chap who is still not convinced it's not the warranty part.
£500 quote to fit the new parts, 5hr labour since the dash has to come out. Although they are refunding £63 labour for the initial inspection.
The saga continues........

That's me :-)
By the sounds of it, it's the hydraulics that have failed. If the Slave cylinder (the bit that requires the gearbox to be removed), was done last year, then it's most likely the master cylinder (pedal end), provided there's no visible leaks. And as I've never actually looked at an Espace (I try my best to avoid all things french!), I can't tell you how hard it is to replace, but going by the quote, it involves quite a bit of work. I know that alot of manufacturers have had problems with pedal boxes cracking/clutches failing, but I don't know if Renault are one of them.
I'll see if I can grab one of the AA patrols tomorrow, and see what the common problems are. I'll also see what the labour times are for changing the various bits, to see if they're stringing you along.

Hello again.
no visible
Sounds like that. There was a trickle last year at the pedal, and it had no resistance when pushed down. That's why I thought it was the same part when the same symptoms happened.
Brilliant, cheers.
if they're
I think they are. When I had a fuel distributor fitted in france at a renault garage the chap just scanned his finger across a chart on the wall to get the hrs for the job.
Ta.

we use ICME times which is the industry standard, some jobs though you can do in less time then quoted on the computer.
