Is it worth spending £400/500 chipping a Discovery Td5 auto 2000
1, will it make it any quicker2, will it do a few more miles per gallon. At the moment it does about 20 mpg which seems a bit thirsty to me

You can chip it, and you will get either one or the other. If you drive it faster, the fuel consumption will stay the same, if you drive it at the same speed as you used to, you'll get more MPG

I agree. But there is something wrong if you're getting 20MPG, unless you drive with a very heavy right foot. If I were you I'd get that checked out. I could probably get that out of my 4.6v8 if I tried hard.

Not sure about this. I had a Td5 Disco (manual) for a while, and my overall average was 22mpg. I don't consider myself a tear-arse driver, so I reckon
20 is not unexpected. I can get 22 out of the 4.6 on a long trip if I keep the speed sensible, and I average 17 for the same mix of driving that gave me 22 in the Disco. The Td5 may be a great engine in the eyes of some, but economical it ain't.MotorsForum website is not affiliated with any of the manufacturers or service providers discussed here.
