F*ok me! I used to get 16-23 from the V8 4.6 matey!

I get 25-28 out of me 2.5 TD 110!!!!

Average from 25,933 miles 28.9mpg. I'd expect an auto to be only a few MPG less than that. Incidentally the last 6,000 miles has an average of a shade over 30mpg, curiously the last service was 6,000 miles ago...

Everyone says that. B-) I stick (more or less) to speed limits and cruise control down major roads at 60 to 65mph.

(Was worried that I hadn't insulted anyone all day. Feeling better now).

I did think there was something not right but having looked at the Disco Owners Club forums it seems that others report getting the same mpg whereas some people claim 30mpg+ quite how there can be that much difference I don't know.

I reckon I should be able to get around 24-25mpg but where do I start, the air filter is new, it has been serviced 3 months ago and the tyre pressures are higher than the recommended 28psi! I could ditch the winch and bracket but will it make that much difference?

At 20mpg I wish I had bought a V8 !

Hmm, check that you haven't got a caliper sticking very slightly on. It's happened to me twice now on my Disco II - not enough to be noticeable but enough to warm the disc up after a reasonable trip. I noticed mine the first time because the fuel economy was dropping off. Put your hand near the hubs after a trip of 10 miles or so and see if you feel warmth - they should be pretty much cool. If one is warmer than the others then get suspicious. Don't touch the disc though - you might regret it!! Also get on level ground and just start the thing just moving and then dip the clutch. It should gently trundle to an imperceptible stop. It's hard to describe, but if you feel or see any retardation or tendency to "screw back" slightly as it comes to a halt then something's binding slightly. Mine got lazy both times on the back left wheel. Solution each time was to take the pads out and *carefully* work the piston in and out using the foot pedal and a helper squeezing the pison back in with a big pair of grips. Then fit new pads so that the piston is further back into it's hole. It's worked for me twice now (and cheaper than a replacement caliper!!), although it seems to stick in the same place each time - perhaps mine's got a tiny manufacturing flaw in that spot ..... and maybe yours has too!

BTW, I get around 28-30 out of mine, mostly short stop-start trips.

My Disco Td5 manual averaged 28.1 MPG over 90K miles. I worked out the fuel consumption every time I filled up. The worst I got was 25 MPG on a tank full and the best was 32 (touring in France). I know automatics are thirstier than manuals but 20 to 21 seems a little low.

I wouldn't worry - sounds about right to me. People do report quite big variations on the Td5, though.

For comparison, my D2 manual averaged 28.

I have a TD5 "W" reg auto and I have had an average of 23Mpg over the last 3 years.

This is not good news... running a V8 on LPG is at the moment actually cheaper.

This creates a real dilema when we eventually change our Disco 300 shape V8.

I'm swinging back toward an L200 again :-(

That's about the range for me, drops down to 12-16 if I do nothing but short trips (6 miles to work, and no more than 1 mile between any two junctions, so lots of acceleration and braking

Which system are you getting?

After lots of head scratching and indecision am going for the Prins VSi.

Badger (and others) recommended the OMVL Dream Piro, but the closest installer who recommended that system to me was nearly 100 miles away. Chap who is fitting mine could have supplied OMVL, but his recommendation was the Prins.

At the end of the day, both systems seem to have their supporters and I suspect (hope!) both are up to the job.

I am surprised that the autobox consumes so much power. With figures like that I'm very glad I didn't buy the first Disco II I was offered as that was an auto.

Don't bother, the brother in laws got one & he NEVER gets more than 22 mpg out of it & it's a dog to drive!

Good grief ! Talk about technology going backwards. The TD5 is load of cobblers if you ask me, what a huge price to pay for a little extra on road cruising speed and a little less noise. The old TDi's are loads better at everything else and more repairable and cost effective. My old H reg Disco 200 TDi manual is still going like a Trojan, still pulls four tons and without a trailer, on mostly short runs, averages between
