Defender speakers

Made a set out of MDF so I could replace the standard speakers with beefier items, the standard LR ones are very slim. Hardly use the damn radio when I'm driving though - can't hear the bloody thing! It's only when the missus says "Just getting a few bits, won't be long." as she goes into Asda's that I get the kids to occupy themselves while I push the Coldplay cassette in and turn it on...ahhhh!

Don't personally have any problems with the volume on the standard 110 radio - I can hear the radio above the racket of a LT85 ;)

So no one knows if these things are genuine parts and if anyone else supplies them?

They claim to be for under the dash - but you're right that does look like a good application for that tubes. Come on, anyone work for LR? Am I going to have to make a special visit to the dealers?!

Yeah it's ok I was just joking a little. My old series landy's were noisy, but my 110 is fine.

They are genuine. I picked up one at a 4x4 sortout a couple of years back, and it had a LR sticker on. I reckon they were an option on Defenders at some point. I only got the corner piece over the wiper motor, complete with the standoff ring fitted

Hello William I have speakers in my Defender which are mounted under the dash, and look similar to the ones for sale on Ebay I think they have the Landrover logo on the grill, I will have a closer look in the daylight and let you. They do look like original factory fitted units. I may beable to take a photo for you.

They could be breather/drainage tubes - - - to let the water out :-)

Useful if you have a Defender with an inside akin to a rain forest . . . happy days.

On a more serious note, the speakers shown appear to have paper diaphragms, I would be inclined to fit plastic poly-watsit ones. I think they would last longer in the damp climate that is the inside of a Defender.

These spacers are available from car audio outlets but I had trouble finding them with such a small diameter. MDF and some black paint to the rescue.

The DOOR speakers in my defender, whilst not quite the same, are similar... and those tubes look like the flexible tubes which cover the speaker wires as they pass the openings at the door hinges. Perhaps these are dual purpose i.e. would also fit in the doors. Mine also have that characteristic 'kicked in' look of all door-mounted speakers... as do those on ebay.

Look like they're the protection tube for running the wires through doors - those look vaguely like the speakers I just fitted into my Discos doors replacing the originals and they came with a tube like that.
