Disco 300TDi questions

Hi I have just taken delivery of a 96 auto version of the above.

Firstly re tyres. Assuming that the General SAG radial 7.5x16 is the same here in S Africa as Eng, Does this fit onto the Disco with Alloy rims? At the moment she is wearing the 235x16 michlens that were standard fitment in this market. I have been told that the SAG's are a bad choice but they are half the price of the michlens and look to be a lot better in off road conditions.

On the topic of waving which I know has been covered before. My only car for the last 5 years has been my trusty SerIII R6 which it must be said, looks the part with Full Length Roof Rack, Warn 8274, big stainless bull bar and Bridgestone 31x10.5's, not to mention more battle scars than body work.

In the above I found that all defender owners and series owners and a few Disco owners and RR classic types used to wave when passing in traffic. I now find that waving at landy owners illicits blank looks at best. I think I have paid my LR dues in the series wagon and I have the oil stained driveway and skinless knuckles to prove it. So how about it?

I must say that is is quite unnerving driving the disco and being able to hold a conversation at 100km/h. In fact getting to 100km/h is quite a novelty. As for radio and aircon, well it ,makes one feel positively extravagant. Its off to one of the local Game Parks next weekend to see how much better that will be not having to peer through the Landy's tiny windscreen and not having the missus complain about the roasting feet in the passenger footwell and the 96db (yes I have measured it) coming from the gearbox. Sani Pass will bekon as soon as first winter snow falls come to see what the turbo can do at 3000m altitude.

The next issue of course is how do I convice the wife to let me hold onto the SerIII now that I have something newer. She is trying to convince me to flog it and use the proceeds towards a new Mountain bike, but I can see that being a decision that I would live to regret. With my son 1 only being

14months and son 2 about t-minus 4 months, I am going to struggle to use the argument that they will be needing a car soon. Any Ideas?

Regards Stephen
