Disco 1 - Door catch adjustment/replacement?

Drivers door catch has started playing up, have to really slam the door a few times to get it to stay shut otherwise it just bounces straight open again. Checked the striker pin and it hasn't moved, blasted some WD40 in the catch but no better.

It looks a PITA to swap out as according to my Haynes manual the glass has to come out.

Anyone had a similar problem and if so is there a simple fix??

Before doing anything drastic check that the striker pin and the aperture in the latch are at the same level - you're looking for dropped hinges so could also try lifting up the rear of the door to check for movement at the hinge.

Does the catch part latch when you operate it manually by levering on the lever with something? Is there any severe/one sided wear on the striker pin? Is the striker pin worn under the head or on the face of the head?

Striker pin sits level with the latch as far as I can see and doesn't appear to have moved, the latch works if manually moved but it's hard to get it to stay 'latched', it springs back round most times I try

Does the door mechanisium work fine if pushed by a screwdriver as a substitute pin?

Well that turned out to be an easy fix!!

Put a philips screwdriver in the brass 'catch retaining' screws in the door, turned a quarter of a turn and heard a 'ping' from inside, initially my heart sank as I though a clip or spring may have come detached but in fact it's fixed!!! Door now closes and latches as normal, there is a slight dent in the door skin around the catch on the inside so thinking I may have trapped something in the door at some point, pushing the catch out of alignment, tension released and re-tightened and all now working fine again.

check that the small spring hasn't broken its a common problem

had to do the passenger door on mine bit of a pig to do but a cheap

fix. have to remove the window surround (but not the glass)

to get at the catch

do a search on ebay for the springs

"Landrover Discovery Door Lock Repair Spring"

its a bit fiddly but not impossible
