440 front door stays??

Gotta problem with my 15 year old 440 in that the stays (??) that stop the door from opening too wide and from blowing shut in one go are not working. The part of the door frame where it is attached has been buckled and so when I shut the door it resists at about 12" from the door frame and the door is then about 2cm lower that it should be. If I close the door firmly it rides up and shuts so that it is o.k. and not out of alignment. I have drifted the pin out of the door stay and the door will now open further than ever before and will slam shut with a firm action with just one finger - the resistance from the damaged stay system is now gone. It would appear that to solve the problem I would have to take the door off and cut a plate to be welded onto the door itself - that's where the problem is. But it would need a hole in it for a cylindrical thing to move in/out of.

Question - is it worth the hassle repairing it? The hinges themselves seem o.k..
