Discovery 300 tdi windscreen wiper motor replacement

Hi all

Having put up with my front windscreen wipers not turning off when switched off for most of last winter and the entire monsoon weather we have been having this year I have decided to replace the motor. Has anyone here done that and what is involved? I presume I can get at and replace the motor and rack from the front rather than through the dash?

I am also told that i may need to rewire the new one as the connections are not the same as the loom.....any info on that would be most welcome

Thanks

Hugh

Hi Hugh. This procedure is really quite easy. The wiper motor is normally replaced as a complete assembly, with all the mechanism attached. Remove Wiper arms by removing nuts in centre of spindles. Remove plastic trim/scuttle panel (3 screws, use 8mm socket). You may have to unclip some of the bonnet seal from the top edges of the wings. The wiper motor is then held in by 6 screws ( Philips number 3 or pozidriv equivalent). There is an earth wire which you will have to disconnect. You can possibly remove the screw where it affixes to the bulkhead. All other wiring is on a single plug. As with most of the

300 tdi wiring, you may need a tool to press the release tab on the electrical plug!

I break Discoverys for a living, and I've learned the procedures for removing most parts. The only part which will involve removing the dashboard is the heater. Even the blower motor is easy to change on the 300 model (it's separate from the heater unit). Mind you, the dashboard comes out pretty easy. Everything is on plugs, and even the heater control cables are on quick release clips. Don't spend a fortune on a new wiper motor. The complete mechanism normally sells for =A320 and I have stock!!

All the best. Joe. P.S, Reply via this group, My e-mail address is completely bogus to avoid spam.

Thanks Joe. This is easily the best and most comprhensive answer I have ever got on here. Send me an e-mail with your contact details and I will give you a call to arrange purchase of the wiper motor and probably other items as well.

Thanks again

Hugh
