Discovery Towing sockets

Hi, I have a 2001 TD5 DiscoveryII with a Tow bar and single socket for trailer lights, and am in the process of buying a caravan. As long as I promise to only tow it between 0100 and 0500 in the morning, could someone answer my question?

To connect the second socket for power to the van , is any of the wiring likely to be present or will I have to run cables from the front?

TIA

Mark

Best time to go. Kids sleep most of the journey.

Some of it is present just plug in(*) behind the rear offside light cluster or in that void some where. There are some wires to the front and an additional relay mounted next to the engine compartment fuse box. I think the you need to get access to the under side of that fuse box as well.

There are two versions of the auxillary wiring AFAICT, one with the other without split charging. I had both trailer lights and auxillary sockets fitted by the dealer along with the adjustable height tow bar (aka rear plough) when I got my DII. They couldn't really answer the "Is the aux socket also a split charge one?"

You are aware of the incompatible "standards" on the aux socket wiring aren't you?

Hi Mark I had the same thing. The wring is all present. The towbar man that fitted mine said "it was just matter of plugging the socket in the wiring behind the light cluster on the o/s. It took him 30mins to fit, most of that time was spent un-doing the ball hitch to fit the socket bracket. Hope this helps. Mick P.S Will be heading to Cornwall on the 27th, will be going between the hours of 0100 and 0500, no traffic kids and missus sleeping!!

We're off to the Poole and Swanage area only I'll probably stay awake to keep Bruce company. Kids and dog will be asleep though.
