Am going to fit a new one as the fillaments are all scratched
Is that just sealant between glass and frame and glass and door or is there a rubber gasket or similar there ?

is this a Defender?
If yes then early ones (up to 2002 IIRC) use aluminium flat panels to secure the window onto the door frame and you apply sealant between the window glass panel, the flat aluminim panels and the door frame to properly secure them.
Post 2002 doors use gaskets IIRC.
