One-touch window operation in 1990 RRC

i'd be interested to see how you fix this one. I had a similar problem due to rot on my RRC, i found a load of stuff in the bottom of the door which I assumed was the guide rails inside the door. The problem I have with mine is if you slam the door with the window open is disappears into the door with a bang, either that or the motor "descends" but the glass sticks in the frame if its wet. wondered if you had a similar problem.

Well, I've fixed the auto-stop with a bit of RSA aluminium pop-riveted to the inner skin of the door. Next opportunity for flexing my repertoire of bad language will be the guide fixing. I'm thinking of a crude affair involving bolting through the bottom of the door. I'll update a new thread with a solution as and when it happens.

The (front) windows descend as expected but rise with a certain reluctance as if through treacle. Not encouraging at all.

N/S/R rear window recently became inoperable. O/S/R descends as if through very chilly treacle and rises only with hand help :-(

Odd that neither rear window reacts to the rear door switches.

I'm fast reaching the conclusion that rather than sell or give it to some lucky devil I will be using my 1988 RRC as a donor vehicle for spares for the 1990 one and then scrapping what remains. Not really what I wanted to do as it has given me 10 years of pretty good motoring.

The centre switch on the centre console disables the rear door switches to stop kids from messing about with them, change the switch position and check again. My RRC has a window lift e.c.u under the cubby box liner and occasionally the rear door windows don't work at all unless I wriggle the e.c.u plug about. If the rear windows don't work then neither does the 45 secs delay to close all the windows after the ignition is turned off, there must be a bad connection or a break on the printed circuit somewhere but I can't see it.

Thanks Martin, I understand the function of the isolator.

Fortunately there is nothing as sophisticated as a window lift ECU in the 1990 RR - it's all done by, heavey, direct cables and there is no delay to allow window shutting post-ignition off! Ta

If it helps I've got a couple of window guide frameworks that you can have. I think they are in fairish condition as I wouldn't have saved them otherwise.

Might very well take you up on that. Where are you?

I don't suppose you have the filler that fits in the top of the auto gear selector, by any chance? The position indicator has come unscrewed

- I know not how - and is slopping around. But to get at it I have to remove, AFAIU, parts of the selector. Problem is that mine has a fancy wooden insert on top which appears to have been glued in place - unless, that is, it attaches in a different manner to the plain, but effective, plastic insert. Even the plastic one will do!
