I'm no expert but the rev counter is fed from the Alternator and both that and the Power Steerting pump are driven by a belt. A quick looskie under the bonnet might reveal that the belt has snapped or a drive wheel has failed?

good news all..in the dark with no torch i could not see that the fan belt was missing hehe..!!thanks

A belt or two have snapped/gone slack - the battery light and rev counter are the alternator not being driven, the tempeture is fan not being driven, and the power steering is the PAS pump not being driven.

New/tensioned belt(s) should fix it - unless the pulley has come off the crankshaft ;-)

Id say that was bad news! fan belts are cheap and easy. If the fan belt is still there and not spinning it means more work...

In news: snipped-for-privacy@4ax.com, Tom Woods wibbled :

Think he was saying that in the dark he couldn't see that the fanbelt was missing

well replaced the fan belt. 1050 mm went straight on after loosening slacker. whats odd is that i retraced the route where i think it snapped and still cant find the old belt..odd! I work nights so knowone was about...oops i diversify. thanks guys for advice.
