On top of the fuel pump (which is located on the left hand side of the engine as you look at it from the front of the car) you will see the throttle cable. The throttle cable is located there with a metallic bracket. On this metallic bracket you can see a round knob. Turn this round knob clockwise (if I remember well) and you can increase the idle by pulling the throttle cable a bit.

In order the release the tension from the throttle cable you can also correspondingly adjust a bolt which is located on the lower part of the metallic bracket that is pulled by the throttle cable. This is a LONG thread only bolt which is located on the base of the fuel pump's "tower" like shape and is held in place by two (or more) nuts. Undo those nuts and bit and push the long bolt as much as required so that the throttle's bracket starts to rest on it (the bolt). This way the throttle cable will not be receiving the full tension of the throttle mechanism return spring.

Hope this helps Pantelis

this is not the idle speed adjustment, it's the throttle cable adjustment. Idle speed adjustment is the long threaded screw with a locknut. There are

2 of these, the other one is maximum-speed and should be left alone unless you know it's wrong. The idle one doesn't have seals on it. Book says 700 rpm for the diesel, which is fairly slow.

Thanks all,

Thought it might be rocket science to set it up but it was easy.

Thanks again

actually, rocket science is one of the most basic things there is. Propellant in a tube, light blue touch paper, watch tube depart.

this is one of the silliest phrases around ATM, IMHO.

now if they said "It's not exactly genetic engineering" to express that something was simple...

Not as simple as you think - you forgot the " Retire rapidly" bit.

well, I figured that natural selection would take care of that. Rocket engineers who don't do that bit aren't rocket engineers for long.
