I think Paul Everett is fairly close to you too - avoid him, he's a nutter (by the way Paul, can you email me a higher resolution piccie of you cross axled - the one that was in, erm LRE I think?)
Further south is P&D, but prolly a bit of a hike for you. Depends on what you want I guess; YORC are serious mud pluggers, other clubs offer an emphasis on social events (cite Buxton and Districk LRC who are a thoroughly 'nice' bunch, Andy will no doubt tell you more).
I'm one of those weirdos, but I object to being called rowdy ;)
