MOT Tester Advice - OT

I have seen a number of responses in various posts that would indicate we either have a number of MOT Testers here, or certainly people knowledgeable about the test.

So, help please!

As well as the 1990 110 County I have a 1972 Triumph Stag (currently with no MOT). I want to do it as a rolling restoration (as it is parked in a garage a distance from my workshop and it is easier to work on at my workshop, but no room to leave it :-( so what I am after is a bit of advice regarding the minimum I need to do to get it through the MOT - I know that sounds bad, but I want it roadworthy, but I don't want to spend money on things I don't need to at the moment (e.g. the floor needs welding, that needs to be done but the door skins are shot and I don't think I need to do those for the MOT).

So, if you can spare the time to answer a few questions off list, then please e-mail peterATpuffernutterDOTcoDOTuk

Cheers

Peter

the welding that needs doing for the MOT is anything that is proper structural - i think roughly it is anything within about 20cm of suspension component mounts or body-chassis mounts or seatbelt mounts.

Holes in floors thus dont matter unless they are located close to one of those sections. Wheel arch lips also dont matter, neither do the door skins (as long as the door shuts and opens as it should). Just tape up any rough edges (MOT'd my car with duct tape over the frilly outer wheel arches after welding the inner bits up) You dont need rear seat belts either which will eliminate a few possible rust problems.

hope that helps

add a rider on to the body panels if its sharp and sticky out you will get a fail hence the duct tape. Simplest way is to take it and get it tested and then do the necessary repairs its pointless doing a load of work and spending £££ and then finding the car is terminal ( or at least uneconomic ) for something major but not obvious until its up in the air. Theres info on the Triumph Sports Six website and

I never owned a Stag ( Herald and Vitesse nut ) the reputation of the dodgy heads made me steer well clear however a pal did he loved it but admitted it was something of a money pit.Derek
