L Jetronic, EFi manuals and rear crossmembers

All,

Having moved Austin's project from Wales to Wiltshire I'm now gathering the information (and the bits!) I need to move forward with it.

The engine is a 3.5 EFi with a gas conversion. I want to put petrol back in as an option. Austin kindly supplied various bits including the the L Jetronic brain and wiring harness, but what I really want (what I really really want) is the relevant manual that shows me what other bits (e.g. high pressure pump, fuel distribution etc.)

So, does any body have a copy or, or a link to a manual that contains details of the 3.5 V8 EFi L-Jetronic system.

Secondly, I need to replace the rear sieve (sorry cross member :-) My local suppliers (Land Rover Orphanage) have told me that for a small amount more money you can get a rear cross member with "long" extensions that supposedly make it an easier place to get at and weld.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

Lastly, any recommended gas conversion garages in Wiltshire (somewhere I can take a small amount of work, but they are also happy to give advice?)

Cheers

Peter

ah, yes - my mate who lives in Trowbridge has the wheels for it, I'll email you his phone number.

point of order, it's "Lucas L" (a.k.a. flapper) not L-jetronic which is a later Bosch system. The Bosch equivalent was the K-jetronic, I believe. There are some details in the Ranger Rover HBOL and more in RAVE if you get the right RAVE. Whether either has enough info, I don't know. I seem to recall finding 3 different RAVES for download recently, which must've been a link in here.

That's what I had in mind. Also has the effect of replacing part of the rear end of the main tubes.

Thanks for the correction, my only excuse is that it was past midnight last night when I wrote this and was using my (poor!) memory!

The last set of links I tried were broken for the RR. What year was the engine?

I've identified a few extra parts, e.g. fuel pressure regulator, anti back fire valve (both on ebay). The high pressure pumps all seem to be "in tank" is that usual?

Totally OT, but quite interesting is

I'm familiar with K-jet cars (I have owned too many saabs!), and it is nowt like the Lucas setup on the v8!. Reading that wiki link, bosch L- jet is indeed much more like the lucas setup than K-jet.

Paul,

Thanks.

Unfortunately the second link (to all the Rave manuals, including a pdf on the EFi appear broken - grr!) or is it just me?

I've got 'em all here somewhere, could probably molish a CD of the relevant one if the downloads still won't.

I've an idea I got 'em off the estonian site or somesuch, but sometimes the connectivity is erratic.

The RAVE link to Green-Oval works - did you see that the URL runs round the corner?

Yes thanks I had. I tried it from work ,but the download speed was rubbish, so I thought I'd better not use up what little we had and draw attention to myself :-)

Downloading now as we speak (at home!)

I downloaded Rave 3 successfully, unfortunately it covers the V8i and is too recent for my EFi.

All the Estonia LR links are broken.

Explain exactly what you're looking for. I think you said it was the old flapper valve system rather than the hot wire.

I've got that on paper and will happily scan it (if I haven't done it before), but if you can tie down which bit(s) you need it might make it arrive more quickly.

Dougal,

I have a 3.5 V8 engine converted to gas operation (only) in a 1985 Defender CSW.

I would like to add the facility to have petrol as a back up.

I have: Flapper valve Electronic brain and wiring loom Fuel tank

What I don't know is, what are all the components that make up the petrol system, what sensors I need and how the whole lot is configured!

For example I expect I need a high pressure pump, a fuel regulator, anti -backfire valve, throttle sensor etc.

So, anything that shows me how the system works and what's in it will be appreciated.

Cheers

Peter - why not use a Megasquirt to control it. There will be much less wiring and fewer components required.
