New Range front diff

I just did one under warranty, 18K on it. (USA, 4/50) No, you can't buy the yoke. "There's no field service specifications to change it." Suspend the engine, remove the two rack bolts, drop the cradle, (don't forget the height sensors) pull the half shafts out, and it comes right out. You don't have to take out the crossmember, just lower it. While it comes down, you have to fiddle with the rack to get it to go up while dropping the cradle down. The stupid thing is that this is a BMW diff. On the X5, they use a rubber guibo. Plus, when the front slip joint fails, the truck will not move. You could, of course, take the yoke off of the brand new one and replace just the yoke and front shaft. Or look into an X5 flange and front shaft. Hell, you could probably just weld it together at the yoke.

If it's not under warranty where you are, I'd have the customer piss and moan to Rover. There's no excuse for this failure, and it's a common occurrance.
