It's not quite the same with Freelanders is it!

not even slightly :-(

I have to say that I'm one who mourns the passing of the "proper" Camel trophy, politically incorrect and bad for the environment and whatever as it was, it was one of the iconic events which we could all look at and dream about, despite that we only drove our Landies to the shop and if we'd even tried to compete at that level we'd probably drop dead of a heart attack.

1989... they'd have been turbo-diesels I assume. Wonder what it was like doing it in series IIIs?

Ive got a video of the Camel Trophy using series IIIs (SWB) from what I can remember. If I can work out how to put it on youtube, I'll let you know

Agreed about it being a much better event then - I saw some of the G4 on the TV (it took about 5 mins to get very bored watching people make big deal out of doing a spot of cannoing) - what a waste of time and effort!

If they'd wanted to make it more "ethical" or something they should have organised road repairs, or building a bridge as a major part of it, so as to leave behind something for the locals.

They did that during the last years of the Camel - usually a school or similar.
