Is that a landy auto box or other make? How many gears do they have? I've been thinking about an auto box, they're supposed to be very good for off-roading although I'm not keen on the idea.

Only if it's been cut off or dyed! Otherwise it could be a real hinderance to getting on in life..

'bout the only drawback for off-roading is that it goes much faster in downhill-feet-off mode. You do still get engine braking, but not as much.

apart from that, 'twas excellent, on and off road.

This is getting a bit Twister for my liking!

It's a shame there's no Torque Converter lock, that would be ideal. The downhill bit is one reason why I'm not that keen on off-road autos, I know that with my auto Audi speed control is harder than it is in a manual.

If I ever get enough time and money to make a dedicated off-road trialling machine then I think I'll have a crack at an auto, but I'm not convinced the 300TDi would like an auto much.

Oh sh** Bit of a senior moment that one. Think of it as left hand drive and swap it over.
