Oil Pump

Hi, I just replaced a oil pump on a 98 Disco. I'm not getting any oil pressure. Can anyone direct me on how to prime these pumps. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Please put no spam in your subject header. Angelo.

If it's a V8, did you pack it with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) before you fitted it?

When I did my engine I filled the oil gallaries as well, the oil filter of course, then once the engine was in, pulled the oil pressure switch and poured oil into it stopped ....

Primed treat

Is it a good idea to do that with a 2.5N/A diesel after a strip & rebuild? I was going to fill as much stuff oil pipe wise with oil, but do I need to do the pump as well?

Many Thanks

fill the pump gear area with vaseline before assembling the pump , this will help with initial priming .

also fill the oil filter with oil before putting it in place . you should be able to spin the engine over on the starter and it will prime the pump, but if petrol engine disconnect the coil lead , if diesel remove the stop solenoid wire so it wont start up on the ignition key until you put the wire back in place . .
