Opinion on Land Rover

Just got my 1995 Discovery out of the shop for the last time I hope. Itwill be going up for sale this week and I've replaced it with a Toyota.I've owned the Discovery for 4 months. I bought it with 120k miles and itnow has 127k. It was a warm weather car as I bought it from the originalowner in the state of FL in the US.After 4 months and 7k miles I wouldn't own another Rover, in my opinion theengines are junk. From the day I bought it oil poured out of everywhere.I had all the leaks fixed. Last month it blew a head gasket. The garageended up putting helicoils in the block because some of the threads werestripped.I don't know if it's a problem anywhere else but in the US you can not get anew or rebuilt engine here. The only option is used. I had a hard timefinding an engine but managed to find one for $2100 US which had 56k mileson it. Fortunately it sold before I could buy it. Makes you wonder if itwould have all the same problems too.After 4 months and many $ I've formed an opinion of Rovers, wouldn't haveanother for anything. It's an overpriced, weak vehicle that breaks downalot. I can hardly wait for the next owner to drive off in it.Mine came with all the repair receipts the original owner had done and itwas a lot more then what I spent.Sorry mates, but these were my experiences.Joe

Easily done if you are not familiar with them.

I love the ally V8 - the Disco would be too heavy and not capable enough with an old iron lump. I've run many Rover V8's over 15 years up to and over

250,000 miles with nothing but oil and water changes. They are the most reliable engines I know.

Yeah! and if they are good enough for helicopters too with all that vibration.....

have a few members who you may like to get in touch with your side of the pond who now and then ship a container load of bits over... and you never know may have a v8 or two tucked away.
