Ken next? - someone's got their priorities wrong! Blair and the rest of his cronies are far further up the list. Ken hardly features - at least north of Watford.

I Disagree. If you look at it logically the more these people are kept on. The more chances when it comes to voting time in kicking them out of power..

On or around Thu, 16 Dec 2004 06:16:48 +0000, John Oakes enlightened us thusly:

didn;t work last time, they got a larger majority.

Mind, that's mainly 'cos the major opposition are a bunch of tw*ts too. I see the idiot Howard is in favour of ID cards an' all.

Ditto, however he's been replaced with Fungus the Bogeyman, we'll have to see how it goes!

I don't think I can think of a single person who likes Blunkett, apart from Bliar, out of touch again!

It amazes me that despite being caught mis-using his powers and position to a degree whereby his resignation became inevitable that he claims his dignity is intact!! Do this Govt think they are so far above the law that they need not admit to it even when caught red janded?

At least the Italians are prepared to take their corrupt politicians to court even if their jusicial system does then let them down!

Perhaps this is the first example of hopefully many more where the press has used its power to some effect instead of lettig this Govt sweep them under the mat again and again.

It didn't work with Mandelson though did it, didn't he come back twice in the end before getting shipped off to Europe for a while? What does it take to keep abusers caught red-handed out of government I wonder.

Mandelson. Twice. And even now he's still around. It stinks, and the Gov't wonder why there's voter apathy. It also makes me angry when I hear from "them" that the overwhelming majority of the electorate supported Labour. Hang on! The last vote got TB & Co in on 46% of the seats won ... meaning that the actual overwhelming majority of seats belong to Con/Lib MP's. Extending that, those 46% of the seats scored around 11 million votes. Yet the electorate numbers about 40 million. Now my school days are rather a long way behind me but it seems that TB&Co only got around 25% of the electoral vote, so therefore 75% of electors found them and their policies particularly distasteful and wanted nothing to do with TB&Co. 75% is, or was when I was at school, a rather larger "majority" than 25% !!

Avoiding any Political leanings -

Problem is "Who elected the Press?"

Do we really want to be run by people who will bend the truth just to sell newspapers and swell their fat pockets?

At least with politicians, (any colour) who bend the truth we get an opportunity to get rid every 4 years. Its not their fault the majority of the population couldn't care, and of those who do care only a very small minority can actually see through the crap we see on TV or read in the newspapers.

We get the gov't we deserve.

It seems that Fungus the Bogeyman is going to push ID cards as hard as Blunkett, so that particular white elephant is going to get foisted on us still. Given the government's record with massive I.T. projects this is going to end in enormous tears and a right royal PITA for us poor sods who "employ" the MPs to "work for us", yeah right!

Agreed - the press can also cause havoc where there need be not even a whimper. But the press has not been active enough in the last terms of Govt. to highlight some of the failings to the non caring public - most of these people only see the telly and papers and look no further for political information.

The last lot were ousted through press intrusion into their private lives ( wrong ) - this lot have been caught time and time again fiddling at work and still no pressure has been put on them until now.

We get the govt. we don't vote for in our country! Only about 1 in 4 of the voting population actually wanted this Govt. to be in power! If voying were to be either compulsary ( or better still popular with the public ) then Mr B and his cronies would never have had the chance to c*ck up as much as they have!!1

I agree entirely Gerry. For example, whether you are in favour of the Euro or not, every one of Murdoch's newspapers will campaign against it simply because he has ordered them to do so. Democracy relies on a free independent investigative press, and we are being very badly served by the current crop of so called journalist most of whom haven't the brains to conduct even a half decent interview.

What a load of utter drivel (again). If you're so clever why don't you go and stand for election yourself and let's see you provide a national health service with no waiting lists and every possible treatment for every patient, a national free education system, a benefits system which only provides strictly for the needy, trains which run on time, decent pensions and care for the elderly without of course levying any taxes at all - everything which any government tries to achieve in the face of uniformed bigoted ranting from people like you. Come on, get off your arse and show us how it's done!

David_LLAMA4x4 composed the following ...

Utter drivel. The government were voted for by those who care .. If people don't vote then they simply don't care enough to try to change their way of life. There may be some who might try to vote tactically, but essentially the government _is_ chosen by those who choose to vote.

IMHO Many of the problems faced by this particular government are a legacy of the Tory rule that lasted so long. Again, though, the Tories were voted in fairly under our existing system.

If you want to change the system, send us a copy of your manifesto, let's see what you can do .. ;)

So are you saying we're not allowed to talk about landrover build quality being crap unless we can build a better car ourselves?

Oh dear that's half the group gone!

I have never said I am clever enough to do it - nor have I said I want to try. BUT the oeople we have doing the job at present are not doing it either - the difference is that they are being paid a lot of money to underachieve. The tasks of a Govt are perhaps impossible to fully achieve and we should aim for as near as we can get - but if what we have at the moment is as near as we can get we need new people doing it - many other counytries very near to home are getting nearer than we are at the moment so it is possible to be better than we are at the moment.

If you ( or most on this NG ) were caught stealing from work. or proven to be incompetent. you would be dismissed without doubt and have no integrity ( or references ) to show for it. Why should a disgraced Minister be given the chance that no other person would get?

The opposition parties at the moment are weak which is not helping the situation but IMHO this Govt' will enter the history books as one of the worst of recent British history....

Please don't credit politicians with being clever. The vast majority of them are not.

Agreed - you find enough job that carries that much responsibility that you can do without a specific qualification / experience. And yet anyone can become a politician....
