parabolic springs for trialler

Hi All, Due to a relaxation in the rules of my local 4x4 club we have been informed that we can now fit parabolics to our series vehicles.

Question. I would like to convert as cheaply as possible (any idea on prices / manufacturers), and also is it possible to get trialler specific springs with a bit more give?

Answers on a postcard...........

Hi Dave Just done my 2a, I got my springs from simmonites (£200) they advertise them at £235 but got them at a show, if you are cheeky you might get them cheeper for cash . i got a set of pro comp es9000 from rocky mountain at the lro spring show £120. The differance in on and off road performance is well worth the expense Hope this helps.

Chris Perfect had some on his trialler (but then, if course, they don't cost so much if you're the importer), he does a 2-leaf without helper rear, which is a very soft one. He also assembled a whacky front set-up using just over one and a half front springs, which gave silly amounts of articulation. Dunno how successful it was.

should find you info and an email address. Ithink he went to a 90 front axle and coil springs eventually, in a bid toarrange for the front wheels to be the furthest-forward part of the vehicle,so that it could climb walls... whether he's still got the 3/4-parabolicsetup around, I dunno. It'd be expensive to make one, really, as it uses 4front springs to make. Basically, you leave the rear shackle in place, cut a front spring so that you can bolt a bit more than half of it to the chassis above the front axle, using big long U bolts, so that you have half a spring along the chassis, with its eye below the spring hanger. You then attach a spare shackle to that, and put the complete front spring between the 2 shackles.

You need to talk to Chris about it, though, as I don't know if it was a complete success... certainly, he used it, with the 2-leaf rears, and it gave much more articulation than standard, but it may have been unstable or something.

or you could just buy the 4 springs and fit them!!! We have 2 customers using ours for comp safari and numerous club members have them for CCV and RTV, no mods are necessary, they are supplied complete with u-bolts and nuts. Beware the very cheap ones doing the rounds at the moment, they are not very good - as ever, you get what you pay for!

the point about it was that the front springs, being much shorter, gave less articulation than the back ones. I don't know how successful it was in use, though - it may have created a new set of problems...
