Recently after about a 50 km drive I decided to check the oil level of the swivel hubs on my 1993 Tdi. When I opened the plugs, about a teaspoon of oil was blown out. Obviously there was some pressure there. My question is: is this normal. Any sensible response is greatly appreciated. Frank in Aussieland

The swivels vent to the axle. Make sure your level in the axle is correct and that the axle breathers are clear. I find that the oil level rises due to heat and aeration in the swivels after a fast run and I would otherwise think its normal.
As we were preparing to depart for Iceland, I nipped round all the vehicles to check the wheel nuts were tight. Knocked the hub capping thing on one of the 110s gently with the wheel nut spanner and it shot off like a champagne cork, spraying quite a bit of EP90 all down my leg. Absolutely great as I only had 2 pairs of trousers for the next 5 weeks! My leg smelled of EP90 for quite some time afterwards.
