Rangie 4.6 HSE temperature gauge

The temp gauge has gone all strange! From cold, it indicates almost 1/2 way, and when at the car's normal temperature it indicates in the middle of the red with the overheat red LED lit. The car is definitely not overheating. Any ideas where I should start looking? The LR specialist said this is not calibrated via Test Book, so there is a fault somewhere. If the sensor is faulty, any ideas what the resistance should be, cold and hot?

Cheers!

Just located where the temp sender unit is by pulling wires. The green sender unit at the front is the one which controls the gauge, pull off the connector and the gauge falls to nothing. Got one on order anyway, but if anyone happens to know what the resistance should be when hot and cold would be handy, as it could save me £20 or so.

Cheers!
