Re: most annoying LR job ever..

You see Nige doesn't know what he missed!

I think there should be a special certificate or badge you get for having done that job!

>I used a standard cable just relocated to the sensible side. - I failed to >refit the block under the pedal which may have explained Niges early cable >failure.

I have managed to adjust mine to give full carb linkage movement and still use the stop :)

I think I modded a IIa linkage the bit that goes inside the engine bay from >the IIa pedal shaft. Either that or the end from the shaft that goes across >the engine bay on the IIa petrol. Then an L shaped bracket on the pedal box >supports to clamp the cable to.

Yeah, i remember you saying that. Was very close to pulling the 2A apart for its linkage!

Your nuckles will grow back given time and soon you will regain normal neck >posture and ability to resist putting every torch you see in your mouth or >between ear and shoulder.

my knuckles are hardening with scar tissue now after having had a busy couple of months of 101 work! I dont feel it so much anymore ;)

My knees on the other hand (foot?) are starting to hurt as there is too much climbing in and out and under the 101 to get owt done.

Hows the engine transplant going?

Its been in since last thursday now!, but i've been held up by the brakes which were also buggered. (so i stopped and built my shed in the meantime!) Its now got a new (old) saab brake servo to replace the one that was full of juice and hissed a lot. shiney Series 3 master cylinder with a nice adaptor to make the pipes fit made by steve and a aluminium brake reservoir which will be the envy of every other 101 owner with a moldy plastic one! (thanks to steve!). I've also vacuum bled stuff and it feels like i might have some pedals!

As of when I came in tonight the engine was missing the exhaust manifolds, LPG pipework, dissy, starter and some coolant. I really am hoping to get it started tommorrow.. Then i need to refit the new seats properly.

Its been there so long that its starting to sink on the axle stands and ive actually worn a path round it! (the gravel is down to the liner!)

Try a headlamp. There's plenty of good, cheap LED ones around now.

These are ace too, I don't know if the claimed burn time of 100 hours is true but I've been using one as a worklight for many months for about 5 hours a week and it's still on the first set of batteries, so at least 30 hours I'm sure about.

Like many LED lamps it has an annoying "feature" that alternates between full brightness and half brightness each time you turn it on, I do wish LED lamp makers would cut that kind of shit out and just add another switch to select brightness. It's not too bad though. I have a bike rear light that was chucked out because I had to press the switch 8 times to turn it off as it sits there cycling through various combinations of flashing lights before finally getting to the "off" combination....

I was actually trying to use an LED headtorch! (got a little 3 LED petzl one). However it kept slipping off/getting pulled off my head and catching on the pedals (and i couldnt get an arm round the steering column to aim it) so i had to wedge it onto the clutch pedal in the end!

anything involving any of the pedals in the pedal box of a 101 requires you to be contortionist, and have the hands of a 2 year old.....

I can tell you have never worked in the pedal box of a 101. I tried it for all of 2 minutes before it got launched across the nearest brick wall! Kept catching, coming off and generally hiderned more that it helped!

I found it helped to hang upside down from the steering wheel with my knees clamped to it. And there are pictures. Its a BASTARD of a job. Easier on the LHD though
