Hi All,

Does anybody know of any pics of a tow hitch setup that has a demountable drop plate with support bars, going back to the standard chassis points, held inplace with lynch pins

TIA

Mark

Some years ago (8-10) there was an outfit making such a thing - Ironman I think they were called.

Sorry, no idea if they are still around.

Try a trawl round the suppliers of underbody protection like Southdown or Devon 4x4. I've seen fuel tank guards with demountable tow hitch advertised. The dixon-bate is not demountable, you can remove the slider but you still have the plough in place. You could probably adapt it though if you know a competant fabricator/welder.

How old is your vehicle? cos if it's recent you are only supposed to use E marked towbars.

Hi Mark,

Southdown 4x4 do a similar system that allows the hitch assy to be removed to stop 'ploughing' when offroad. Check there website out here

Oddly, in Iceland, Laura's Disco only ploughed on the tow hitch once, whereas mine caught the spare-mounted hi-lift at one point with quite a clonk, and mine was lifted 2" as well. Maybe I was just trying harder.
