Didn't like his taste in music over much sometimes, but a top bloke. Came from the same place as my 101 too.

Indeed. Immediately thought of when I went to Glastonbury 97 in all the mud and saw him and Jo Whiley wandering around looking as they had both had one toke too many!

Came as quite a shock, he was my nextdoor neighbour (Gt Finborough in Suffolk). I found out the same way as everyone else on the radio today, was very sudden. I was at his 65th Birthday party last month where my cousin's band played for him, was a good do as well. He seemed lively and in good health at the party, just happened to have a heart attack without notice, I guess that's one of the better ways to go though when you think of the alternatives.

My thoughts are with his family and close friends.
I think that in respect we should get this thread to the longest EVER seen in AFL.

Shit, sorry Fergus - warm wishes an all.
There's a strange irony there really I guess and yes, a better way to shuffle off than many others. I wish it had happened in 30 odd years or so time, though.

Couldn't believe it when I heard it on the radio this afternoon. My Dad was listened to him on the radio the night he died. I can also remeber listening to him when I was a child. Ivor Cutler is one person that sticks in my mind.
A sad loss for everyone I think.

There must be a lot of people who remember listening to him when they were younger
There arn't many entertainment type people/programs that i can remeber listening to for all of my life.
every single internet forum and newsgroup that i read has got a thread about him, and none of the places are on music related topics, which is a sign that a lot of people will miss him!

Excellent presenter and a wonderful voice to listern too, we still have his voice overs on lots of programmes, so he will live on.
Didn't he used to present Top Gear? (bit before my time)

He did, but it wasn't the motoring show, it was what his Radio 1 show was called for a while.
