RR Brake Caliper Rebuilinf

Hi All,


1) Trying to rebuild my brake callipers, but the new retainer for the wiper seal won't fit back into the calliper. The retainer just crushes. Even carefully squeezing it back in with a g-clamp it still catches and bends.

Anyone done this before and know a better way?


2) Does anyone know a good source for the retainers without buying the complete seal kit? I'm down a few now.

Clean the housing so it's really, really clean first before trying. I made a wee thing for pressing down evenly on the whole retainer out of a plastic waste pipe fitting filed out. But you are right it is a nuisance when you wreck the retainer.

I ended up making an approximate copy of the proper tool for the job (like an extra beefy G clamp with a face the right size and shape for the ring). Even so they can be a right bugger to get in.

No, I always buy a spare seal kit.
