S3 temp gauge not working

Most likely cause? Sender unit or a wiring fault?

Or even the gauge?

Cheers

Try earthing the wire that goes to the sender unit and see what the gauge does. It should move to one end of the scale. If it does then the gauge works and the problem is in the sender. If this has no effect then look at the wiring and the gauge. You can test the gauge with a fresh wire connected directly to the back of it in the way ive just described.

Most likely - sender or wiring. Earthing the wire at the sender will tell whether the sender is the fault. There is also a voltage stabiliser on the back of the speedo which could be faulty, but if either this or the wiring as far as there is at fault the fuel gauge will be showing the same symptoms, as the stabiliser supplies both gauges. Petrol gauge is fine. I'll have a good look tomorrow.

Ta for the pointers all!

I would check the earth connection behind the panel. You will find two studs sticking out and one of them has the earth wires connected with a knurled nut. Undo the nut a bit, don't try taking it right off or you will drop it never to be seen again, and clean up the connections and then wipe with a lightly vaselined finger and retighten the nut. Cured mine but then my fuel gauge also read slightly wrong. BTW mind you don't damage the self cancelling on the indicator stalk.
