Series 3 loss of drive in high range

hope that school run went okay this am. its heartening to know im not the only one limping around in a, shall we say, eccentric, S3.

i learnt to drive in london so its my default. i like the landy here becasue as i said, no one can do really hurt you and you'd have to be a cracked up minicab driver at eight of a sunday morning to really want to get into it with a tatty landy.

however, that is a time when i am abroad some time so am prepared!

jag? presume we're talking sweeny 'look out guv, he's got a shooter' motors here. cant beat em. my friend in (and this is really odd) san fran has got a 1971 one and his girlfriend a '73. i dont know how, why or what but i loved being driven around Sf in a proper piece of london. has to be said me mate in SF is as cockney as they come! incongerous but beautiful: like bullitt meets minder!

hmm. . . wasnt teh minder motor a granada 2.9 or some such. ah the great age of british motoring contd.

Bruce has had several over the years. He has had an Insector Morse, an E-type, 3 XJS, and the last one he had when I met him was an XJ6 coupe. If it wasn't for four kids we'd probably still have one...they just don't all fit in!

Got the RR lights working yesterday so took them in that. The garage is being cleared ready for the removal of series parts as I speak!

What I meant was that he had a car that looked like the one Inspector Morse drove.

I'd guess that your transfer box is OK then, but something is adrift in the rear axle.

Sounds like you need your very own Percy!.... A Jag 4.2 would fit in the Disco a doddle ;-) and bung on a Jag Auto box you can close your eyes (Government Health warning - Closing your eyes whilst driving Kills) and be back in that Jag complete with 4 Kids in the back. :-)

But the Yellow and Red Knob from the Series Transferbox would look a bit out of place.. But other than that It would need alot less shoe horning than Percy did.

He said later that "if your Dad were alive, then I would seriously consider it." My Dad never ever took any of his cars to a garage and always bought British cars because you could always go to a scrap yard for spares.

Bruce says that the second XJS he had was a V12 when he lived in London. He said it is the only vehicle he's ever owned that has been more uneconomical than the V8 Land Rover. He said he never got more than 10 miles to the gallon and that was if he was really carefull. He did say that it was one of the nicest cars he's ever had and great to drive on the motorway when he used to come back to Leicester from Shepherds Bush(how he wishes he still owned the house he bought there).
