Just wondering if anyone has replaced the ribs and ali floor of the rear tub with a big piece of steel / chequer plate that attaches directly to the chassis. Could it be done and is it as simple as it sounds? Thanks, Jon SIII x 2 (both in bits)

If you use solid steel sufficiently thick to support itself on the chassis pads provided without reinforcing (my guess is that you would need 6mm, possibly 8mm for rigidity) - there goes most of your payload, especially since the ends will be unsupported. And you would still have to attach the floor somehow to the sides, front bulkhead and rear sill somehow or they would rattle, not to mention the need to get some sort of seal between the alloy and the steel. Thick aluminium might be more practical, if a lot more expensive. JD

Plus the body flexes sperately to the chassis so some interesting stresses would be built up.
