In our Disco ( 2000 ES SII ) often when we park the car..and are exiting the vehicle...there is the kind of spring releasing sound...comes from underneath around the middle of the car !
First my wife thought i was the sound of air releasing...but I'm almost certain it is a spring or something like that....
Any ideas ????
You should listen to your wife, it is air releasing. B-)
It is the self leveling air suspension sorting itself out as the load (you and the wife) leave the vehicle. If you put a reasonable load in it it'll do it several times as you take the load out. It can only let air out of the system so if it ever goes on a transporter be aware that by the time you get to a destination the suspension will be flat and will need a minute or two to come back up (probably with engine running, not sure of the logic). As the suspension is down you might ground the backend when you reverse off the transporter even though it was clear when you went on.
Really...damn..it sounds like a spring I swear.... though that air suspension theory had been mention before i must say....
Anyone else thing they know anything about my spring theory ???..I reckon I have good ears for sound too...since I am a music producer by trade....so damned if I'm giving to that air thing yet :)

Most Disco IIs make a funny noise on starting the engine. It's a sort of twangy sound, easily sounds like a spring (or that thing you did with a ruler and the edge of a desk in year 2). Turns out it's some pipes banging on the bulkhead, common problem, but not yours.
Yebbut the OP is talking about a short while after switching off and getting out. The BrBrBrBrp on start up is the ABS doing somthing.
I've done TV and radio sound for the last 25+ years 14 years BBC staff and then freelance... The noise on mine starts quite suddenly and stops with a small clunk and a valve snaps shut but the noise in between is most definately the noise of escaping air. Not as harsh as that from an air line or even the valve of a tyre.
hmmmm.... o.k. I think I'm going to have to somehow record this bloody sound...only thing is....I can never predict exactly when it will do it....it's almost random...but always around the time of parking...entering or leaving the vehicle... maybe have my PDA at the ready to record...will be a challenge though... then i can upload a sample of this.....damned sound..

Yebbut that's why I said it probably isn't his problem - just a general observation that Discos can make funny noises. Saturday Night Fever comes to mind.
