A loose tach wire, or a rectifier diode in the alternator on it's way out.

The wire has a spade terminal and they can easily get loose.

Alternator end mostly. The tacho end is part of one of the multiplugs behind the dash. The alterantor one is subject to heat and vibration...
first thing to check, anyway. Also check for alternator earthing - if it has an earth strap, check that, and also check mounting bolts for tightness.
