Tonight Staffordshire Volunteer search and rescue group turned out with a moments notice to assit with the clearing of the traffic chaos in Stoke on Trent.
The group are 4x4 enthusiasts and owner and not purely Landrovers but all models are welcome by the group.
They deployed themselves a key locations where normal everyday vehicles were slip sliding all over the place and assisted motorist with in the main manual effort to get some traction and remove bottle knecks and blocks to main arterial roads around Hanley.
Not only that but they stuck around even after the main problems had subsided to ensure that those motorists who did get stuck on the sheet ice over 1 inch thick in some locations were quickly back on the move. They then drove around the main arterial roads to assist those who had either broken down run out of fuel or otherwise become stranded.
Given the short notice and fact that all not only used their own vehicles fuel and time I was impressed by the speed with which they turned out , especially given most would have just finished a hard days work and had to battle their own way home too.
I have no affiliation to the group but was involved in their deployment ... so once again lads and lasses thankyou from all those people in Stoke on Trent who would otherwise have spent another few hours in the cold and possibly suffered damage to their vehicles were it not for the efforts of the group. And a further thankyou to their families for their support too.
Sadly I was at work so couldn't go and play...sorry assist in this excellent role.
